Varun Dhawan: In Badlapur, Nawazuddin and I Are a Match Made in Hell

A still from Badlapur

New Delhi:

Actor Varun Dhawan, who will be seen in upcoming revenge thriller saga Badlapur, said that he has poured all his aggression into the film. "I am spent. All the aggression I had in me, I have given it to Badlapur," said Varun Dhawan in an interview to NDTV.

The actor, who will be seen as a menacing character in the Sriram Raghavan film, said, "It was the panga I took doing this film. I had always wanted to work with Sriram Raghvan and you can say I put it out to the universe and, lo and behold, it manifested. Yes, I was depressed in the sense playing Raghu's journey. Even playing Humpty (in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya) affected me in a light hearted sort of a way. The same way Raghu's aggression, his dilemma too affected me, just to think of 'what if'." Talking about his co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui, he said, "Ours was a match made in hell." Clarifying that Nawazuddin was not playing the villain as was made out to be in the film, "Watch the movie and you will know who the villain is. My character Raghu could be the anti-hero, since he is dark. It worries me that my fan base of young kids will not be able to watch this film, but for my growth as an actor I had to do this one," the 27-year-old actor said. Does he feel that somewhere stars or actors were compromising on the quality of films for box office numbers aka the 200 crore club? "Yes of course," said Varun adding, "But it cannot be helped, my father's time can say it was different. Now it's different and it's all too commercially driven." The young actor, who has had a hat-trick of hits, said he was very scared of failure, but he was hoping that with Badlapur he could prove that he had it in him to take on challenges. So have the senior Dhawans watched it? "Well Dad (David Dhawan) has, not the rest of the family," Varun said.

Who would Varun like to present his character Raghu's hammer of destiny to in the Indian Cricket team? "Last World Cup, I would have said MS Dhoni, but would be Virat Kohli this time, he seems to be ushering in a new wave," Varun said.

Virat, who is his co-partner in the Goa Football Club, is the 'perfect Raghu,' Varun said. "He has the aggression and the ability to do it," the actor said.

Varun said the recent AIB Roast, "I would rather not talk about it and give the people protesting against it the importance they so do not deserve."

Badlapur also stars Yami Gautam and Huma Qureshi in pivotal roles and is slated to release on February 20.
