Being friends with Hollywood superstar George Clooney has its perks. Sometime in 2013, George Clooney invited his group of closest friends over to his place - and dinner was not the only thing on offer that night, reported news agency PTI. One of the guests at the party was supermodel Cindy Crawford's husband Rande Gerber, who is currently Mr Clooney's business partner and also his best friend. Speaking on an episode of TV programme
Headliners, Rande Gerber revealed that the
Ocean's Eleven actor gifted one million dollars each to 14 of his friends present that night, saying they "meant a lot to him." That's not it - George Clooney also paid the necessary taxes for his friends, stated PTI.
"There's a group of guys that we call 'The Boys.' George had called me and 'The Boys' and said, "Hey, mark September 27, 2013 on your calendar. Everyone's going to come to my house for dinner," PTI quoted him saying on the show Rande Gerber.
Mr Gerber shared the incident and said: "When Clooney's dinner guests arrived they found black suitcases at each of their spots around a table." "Listen, I want you guys to know how much you've meant to me and how much you mean to me in my life. I came to LA, I slept on your couch. I'm so fortunate in my life to have all of you and I couldn't be where I am today without all of you. So, it was really important to me that while we're still all here together, that I give back. So I want you all to open your suitcases," Mr Gerber quoted George Clooney as saying.
Mr Gerber also shared
that everyone was shocked to see what was inside the suitcase: "Every one of us, 14 of us, got a million dollar. Every single one of us. We're in shock. Like, what is this?" To this Mr Clooney explained: "I know we've all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don't have to worry about your kids, you don't have to worry about, you know, school, you don't have to worry about paying your mortgage."
George Clooney is married to Amal Clooney and the celebrity couple are parents to
twins Ella and Alexander. George Clooney is best known for films like the
Ocean's series of movies,
Michael Clayton,
The Descendants and
Gravity. He was last seen in 2016's
Money Monster.
