Highlights

  • The race is on between Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan for the lead role in Telugu blockbuster Don Seenu's Hindi remake, but the film's leading lady Anjana Sukhani has already cast her vote.

The actress wants Salman Khan as her love interest in the action-comedy, which was this year's biggest hit down South in it's original avatar.

The race is on between Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan for the lead role in Telugu blockbuster Don Seenu's Hindi remake, but the film's leading lady Anjana Sukhani has already cast her vote.

The actress wants Salman Khan as her love interest in the action-comedy, which was this year's biggest hit down South in it's original avatar.

"I am dying to work with Salman Khan. He has the personality to really work wonders with this kind of role, you just have to see Dabangg to see how good he is in the genre," Anjana told PTI.

The actress had worked with the superstar in her debut film Salaam-e-Ishq, but she wants more of Bollywood's ultimate bad boy."Though we did work together in Salaam-e-Ishq, mine was just a small role and I did not really get to know him.But working opposite Salman will be a totally different thing and I am praying for it to happen," said Anjana.

The actress began her career as a model and became a well known face after appearing with megastar Amitabh Bachchan in a commercial for Cadbury chocolates.

She followed up her debut with the multi-starrer comedy Golmaal Returns and the romantic musical Jashnn. But with her latest project Allah Ke Banday the actress is stepping into grittier territory.

The film starring Sharman Joshi, Naseeruddin Shah and Atul Kulkarni, deals with the issue of juvenile crime in the gritty underbelly of Mumbai.Though Anjana confesses to having only a small part in the film directed and written by debutante Faruk Kabir, she says that after the staple masala movies, it was a refreshing  change.

"I play Sharman Joshi's love interest in the film and though it is not a big role, the plot moves ahead with my character. I said yes to the film because I believed in the director and his vision. I knew that he will treat the subject sensitively," said Anjana.

So is she aiming to enter the league of 'serious' actresses with the film? No says Anjana.

"I don't want any such tags and personally I am biased towards commercial entertainers because those are the kind of films that I like to watch. But that does not mean I will never do a film that deals with a serious topic. A balance between the two genres is what I want," said the actress.

The actress' career graph meanwhile is sky rocketing down South and she was nominated in the Best Actress category at the South Filmfare Awards for her Kannnada movie Maleyali Jotheyali.

And Anjana dismisses the popular notion that the Southern film industry is refuge for those who fail to get work in Bollywood.

"The last two years have been bad for the Hindi film industry and the number of films being made had reduced. And the Southern industry is thriving and offers you a chance to polish their acting and dancing skills. It's not like we are wasting our time there," said Anjana citing the example of Aishwarya Rai, one of Bollywood's top actresses who stars in the Tamil film Endhiran opposite Rajnikanth.
