New Delhi:

Actor-musician Saba Azad was at her candid best during a recent interview with Hindustan Times, in which she revealed why she decided to use Saba Azad as her stage name. The 36-year-old actress revealed that 'Azad' was her grandmother's pen name and that her name on the passport still reads Saba Grewal. "The name on my passport is Saba Grewal. My father is of Sikh origin and my mother of Muslim, but neither practiced religion nor imposed their opinions upon me. They are atheists. Azad was my nani's pen name. I liked the sound of it and the meaning of course. The want for freedom is the most human instinct. So I adopted it as my stage name," Saba Azad told Hindustan Times.

Saba, who is from Delhi originally, described what her formative years were like and added, "I'm from Delhi, I come from a family of academics and artists, we had a very normal middle-class upbringing with a lot of cultural exposure. Theatre, cinema, dance, and music were a big part of my growing years."

Saba Azad is a singer-musician. She has featured in films like Dil Kabaddi and the 2011 movie Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge. She was also a part of the Netflix anthology Feels Like Ishq. She was last seen in the web series Rocket Boys.

Saba also frequently features in headlines because of her relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan. The actors reportedly started dating earlier this year. Saba often accompanies Hrithik to his family functions. They also went to Paris on a holiday earlier this year.
