- First look of Ranbir Kapoor as Rama revealed at multi-city events in India, including Mumbai
- Director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra attended launch; Ranbir skipped
After seven years of wait, Ramayana -- the film adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayan -- is set to make its way to the big screen. Today, the makers of the magnum opus released the first look of Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor as Rama at a multi-city event.
Director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra attended the launch in Mumbai. Ranbir Kapoor, however, skipped the event.
Meanwhile, actor Alia Bhatt shared her husband's first look reveal on her Instagram.
"RAMA. In cinemas globally. Diwali 2026 & 2027," she wrote in the caption.
At the launch event in Mumbai, Nitesh Tiwari said it had taken him "seven years to reach this point".
"Filmmaking is a speculative and lonely process. I have lived the last seven years imagining this moment, as to what the reaction would be when it finally comes out. After looking at your reaction, I feel all those seven years were worth it. A lot of people have worked very hard on this. Hope we get your love in the same proportion," said the director, known for Dangal and Chhichhore.
“I worked on this for 7 years… now I'm waiting to see your reactions.

"This is our labour of love and finally it is coming out in the world. Before letting it go, there was a feeling of wanting to keep it. 'Are we ready to share it?' Thanks to Nitesh and the team that has worked so hard... I'm incredibly proud of what we have put out, I hope you all have loved it also. You don't pick Ramayan, Ramayan picks you," added Namit Malhotra of VFX studio DNEG.
Ramayana makers Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra first launched Ranbir Kapoor's first look as Rama at two different events in Los Angeles and New York in the last two days.
Several videos from the events went viral on social media where Ranbir Kapoor and Nitesh Tiwari could be seen fielding questions by a moderator.

Some lucky fans were also able to interact with Ranbir Kapoor, one of them even gifted the actor a Ram Janmabhoomi Temple-themed jacket designed by him.
