Miss India Beauties Set Their Sights High

Mumbai: Winners of the Miss India pageantheld in Mumbai last week, say that they are feeling on the topof the world, but are not willing to rest on the laurels.

Ankita Shorey, Miss India International, told PTI thather parents always treated her like a princess but she isfeeling like one in reality now.

"I am feeling that I have become a princess of the worldnow! But I am aware that beauty and intelligence go hand inhand. Communication skills are very important," said the24-year-old Delhi girl, who has made Mumbai her home for thelast two years.

She said the Miss International pageant is slated to beheld in September-October this year and after a short vacationwith parents back home, she will return to start training onbuilding her confidence levels.

"Bringing the crown home and making the country proud ismy first priority after which I plan to look for opportunitiesin films," she said.

Ankita said Bollywood has always been her first love. "Ihave never dreamt of anything else."

After graduating from Jesus and Mary college in Delhi in2007, she has modelled with Shah Rukh Khan for Emami and withRanbir Kapoor for Virgin Mobiles.

Hasleen Kaur, the 22-year-old Delhi girl who won the MissIndia Earth title, said going through the process of MissIndia contest had been an evolution and transformation forher.

"It has helped me improve my confidence, poise andgrace," she added.

Hasleen said the Miss Earth pageant will take place inSeptember in Vietnam. "After a vacation of ten days at home inDelhi, I will get back to training in diction, fitness andeducate myself on environmental issues and my country'spolicies on environment.

"At Miss India, I was representing myself and now at MissEarth, I will be representing myself as an Indian. So this isa huge responsibility to uphold the country's policies,culture and values."

Hasleen said she is looking for a better and biggercareer in fashion and Bollywood. Besides, she would like tocontinue her association with Girl Child Education, a projectgiven to her as a Miss India contestant.

"After I come back from Miss Earth after hopefullywinning the crown, I will associate myself with an NGO andcontribute my little bit to education and employment ofgirls," said the 22-year-old graduate in English Literature.

Kanishtha Dhankar, who won the Miss India World title,said Bollywood will be the next step for her. "I have toprepare for the Miss World pageant and work towards winningit," she said.
