Lata to be honoured with 'Lifetime achievement award' at GIMA

Mumbai: Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar willbe conferred with the 'Lifetime achievement award' for herstellar achievements in the field of music during theinaugural edition of the Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA).

"The nightingale of the Indian music industry, LataMangeshkar has inspired generations of aspiring singers withher unstinting passion for music, continuing to be a guidinglight for many budding singers even today," a press releasehere today said.

The award will be presented at a function on Wednesdaynight at Yash Raj Studios in suburban Andheri, it said.

In a career spanning six and a half decades, Lata haswon several prestigious awards and honours including the PadmaBhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999) and Dada Saheb PhalkeAward (1989), among several others.

She is the second vocalist ever to have received theBharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. Lata alsofeatured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.GIMA, which has been conceptualised to honour India'musical talent across all genres has Asha Bhosale as itsGoodwill ambassador, the release said.

Some of the biggest names of the Indian music industryincluding Asha, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan,Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt Vishva Mohan Bhatt, Salim-Suleiman andShreya Ghoshal among many others are likely to attend theawards evening, it said.
