Legendary actor Dilip Kumar died on Wednesday morning. He was 98. The actor was admitted to the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai after complaining of breathlessness on June 29. Dilip Kumar's family friend Faisal Farooqui shared the heartbreaking news on the actor's Twitter account.  “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab a few minutes ago. We are from God and to him we return,” the tweet read.  

The news sent shockwaves across the country with people from all walks of life paying their tribute to the “Tragedy King”.

-- Dilip Kumar, who made his debut in 1944 with Jwar Bhata, was paid  Rs 1250 per month as his remuneration.

-- His real name was Mohammed Yusuf Khan.

-- Dilip Kumar was spotted by actress Devika Rani who is widely regarded as the first lady of Indian cinema.

-- In his autobiography "Dilip Kumar: The Substance And The Shadow", the actor revealed his alleged relationship with Asma Rehman describing it as a "grave mistake".

-- The actor did most of his schooling at Barnes School in Nashik. He met Raj Kapoor here and became friends.

-- For the song Madhuban Mein Radhika Naacha Re from the film Kohinoor,  Dilip Kumar took sitar training for close to six months. 

-- Dilip Kumar rejected the role of Sherif Ali in David Lean's Lawrence Of Arabia, eventually played by Omar Sharif.
