New Delhi:

Deepika Padukone has stepped down as Chairperson of MAMI or Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image, citing professional commitments. In a statement shared on her Instagram stories today, the 35-year-old actress wrote, "Being on the board of MAMI and serving as Chairperson has been a deeply enriching experience. As an artist it was invigorating to bring together cinema and talent from all over the world to Mumbai, my second home. I have come to realise however, that with my current slate of work, I will be unable to give MAMI the undivided focus and attention it requires. I depart knowing that MAMI is in the best hands possible and that my bond and connection with the academy is one that will last a lifetime."

Deepika does have an extremely crowded schedule currently - she is working on Shakun Batra's untitled project as well as Pathan, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan. She will soon begin work on a film with Baahubali star Prabhas and Fighter, co-starring Hrithik Roshan. Deepika also has the Bollywood remake of The Intern in the works - Amitabh Bachchan recently filled the role that was to be played by Rishi Kapoor, who died last year.

The Mumbai Film Festival, run by MAMI, was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic; it is unclear whether it will be held this year.

Deepika Padukone will be seen this year in '83, a sports film in which her husband Ranveer Singh plays cricketer Kapil Dev; Deepika will appear as Kapil Dev's wife Romi.
