Ashima-Leena ready with outfits for CWG closing ceremony

New Delhi: If you thought the outfits wornby performers during the spectacular Opening Ceremony of the19th Commonwealth Games was dazzling, then be ready for abigger show at the Closing Ceremony, promises fashion designerduo Ashima and Leena Singh.

Delhi based fashion designers Ashima and Leena areready to showcase about 3,000 alluring outfits in the closingceremony on October 14.

The designers were roped in by the Commonwealth GamesOrganising Committee for the two sessions Vande Matram andanother on the Martial Art.

About 2,400 children from various schools in thenational capital and neighbouring districts will participatein Vande Matram to greet guests and felicitate them duringthe ceremony.

On the other hand, 550 professionals, divided in ninegroups, will perform different forms of martial arts."The performers for the Martial Art session will becoming from different states. Bringing in the essence of thoseareas together with the art form was the most challengingpart," Leena told PTI.

She was sure that people will appreciate their workand design.

The designers duo had also made outfits for about4,000 performers during the opening ceremony on October 3 atJawaharlal Nehru stadium.

The designers, whose creation has also appeared in the'International Herald Tribune', the global edition of The NewYork Times said about 500 skilled workers had spent almostfive months to craft 4,000 dresses for the participants."Our design will depict tradition and culture ofdifferent States," Leena said, refusing to describe their workciting "secrecy clause" of their contract with the OrganisingCommittee.

The OC had about eight months back roped in Ashima andLeena for the mega sporting event to give all participants atrendy and cultural look to reflect rich tradition of thecountry.

'Ashima-Leena', the brand that fuse periodic trendsand modern style was set up by the two sister-in-laws in 1993.Both of them have done about 290 ramp shows across the globe.Ashima, who hails from the first batch of NIFT, is thecreative head whereas Leena, a lawyer by profession, is themarketing brain behind the brand.

"We are sure that our designs will be liked by all theinternational delegates and spectators coming to watch thegrand ceremony," Leena said.

About 60,000 people attended the Opening Ceremony ofthe 19th Commonwealth Games, being hosted by the country forthe first time.

Over 7,000 athletes from 71 nations are participatingin the sporting extravaganza.
