Mumbai: Singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said that he was not "aware" that the song which he sang for Salman Khan's Sultan was originally recorded by Arijit Singh.

Arijit Singh's public apology to Salman Khan made headlines last month. In the note, Mr Singh had requested the actor to not remove the song which he sang for Sultan.

In a recent interview, Mr Singh also revealed details of what actually happened and said that Mr Khan might have been upset about a few comments made by the singer at an award function. Mr Singh had also said that he is hopeful that the actor will "forgive" him someday.

Reports suggest that the song Jag Ghoomeya was initially recorded by Arijit Singh, but was, however, re-recorded in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice.

"First of all, I was not aware if anyone had sung it before. I just came and I sung the song and that's it. I don't know what happened after that," said Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

Sultan, which casts Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma as wrestlers, has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and will release on Eid this year.

Mr Khan attended an event in Mumbai where the song Dillagi was launched. The song has been composed by Salim-Sulaiman and the music video features Vidyut Jammwal and Huma Qureshi.

Salim Merchant said that he has worked with amazing filmmakers.

"Fortunately, we have never faced that pressure ever. We have worked with some amazing filmmakers and directors, who were very open and respectful about our work and they want us to work with whoever we want to," said Salim.

"There is always a wish list. I remember we were working in Heroine and there was a song where Madhur Bhandarkar was very keen that we work with Sunidhi Chauhan," added Salim.

Sulaiman said that the decision to make a particular singer sing a track is just like that of casting for a film.

"When we make music, we make it for films. In a film what happens is you cast. The director casts the actors, cameraman, the DOP (director of photography). In the same way when we make music, we cast singers as per the requirement of the song," said Sulaiman.

"Usually the director and producer agree with us. When there is a need for a certain casting, we try and achieve that," added Sulaiman.
