Anushka Sharma Says That the 'Ban Mentality is Suffocating'

Anushka said that the current scenario of censorship was stifling.

New Delhi:

Confident, self-assured and well-spoken is what comes to mind after meeting actress Anushka Sharma. Not one to mince words, the actress who turned producer with her upcoming film NH10, said that many people in the industry warned her off producing.

"'But why?' I asked," said Anushka, their response being, 'It's not been done before.' "But that doesn't mean it should not be done and we should just do the tried and tested," said the actress, adding, "I believed in this role. That was the actor and I turned producer because I wanted this story to be told."

The 'army' kid, proud of her fauji background, said the current scenario was stifling, "We are breeding a 'ban mentality'. You are irritating people to the degree that it's suffocating them. We are educated people, we know what's right and what's not. Let us think for ourselves than follow a particular ideology," Anushka said. (Also Read: I Look, Feel Different in NH10: Anushka Sharma)

Regarding the current censorship fracas, Anushka's only plea is 'believe in the certification'. "It's there for a reason. Films depict what's there in reality," said Anushka. (Also Read: Films Should Be Remembered for Stories, Not Stars: Anushka)

Further, the actress said she didn't like discussing her personal life, saying, "It's personal for a reason." To NDTV's Barkha Dutt, however, she did say blaming her for someone's poor show or crediting her with someone's victory was uncalled for. Admitting it was tough being criticised for being on tour, the actress said that the intense scrutiny of actresses allegedly in relationships was to find out if they were getting married or engaged. "We are grown up people and know how to handle our lives," she added.

So who does Anushka want to go on a road trip with?

"Well, my cast from NH10," replied Anushka. She further stated that she has no plans for a holiday down under or anywhere since she is saddled with work.

Soon after NH10, Anushka Sharma will be seen in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor. This will be followed by the release of Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do.
