NIPUN Bharat Mission: Celebrating five years of NIPUN Bharat, the Ministry of Education stated that guided by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the scheme is strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) and paving the way for 'Viksit Bharat 2047.' 

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, launched the "National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat Mission (NBM))" on July 5, 2021, for ensuring that every child in the country necessarily attains foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 2.

In a social media post today on X, the ministry highlighted the key features of the scheme:

  • Focus on FLN from Balvatika to Grade 2 
  • Vidya Pravesh and expansion of Balvatikas for school readiness
  • Jadui Pitara and e-Jadui Pitara, FLN-aligned textbooks and primers
  • Quality teaching-learning materials and competency-based assessments
  • Active community and parental participation in children's learning
  • Learning-focused implementation across states and UTs

According to official information, e-JaaduiPitara was launched on February 10, 2024. The e-JP is a mobile based application and website with play-based pedagogy and a way to disseminate the learning of Jaadui Pitara, (a collection of Play Based Learning Teaching Material (LTM) for 3 to 8 years age group.

Play and activity-based textbooks for Classes 1 and 2 have also been prepared and shared with states and UTs, as per ministry's record. 

In another post on August 22, the ministry stated: 

"NIPUN Bharat is driving improvements in Grade 3 learning outcomes, as highlighted by PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024."

"A continued focus on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy is helping build stronger learning foundations for every child," it added.

According to the central government, it is the first time that the age group of 3 to 6 years has been included in the school continuum in the foundational stage in 5+3+3+4 structure consisting three years of Balvatika and Grades 1 and 2.
