Water canons, teargas used to disperse Youth Cong activists

New Delhi: Police today used water canons and lobbed teargas shells to disperse Youth Congress activists trying to enter BJP headquarters in New Delhi during their protest.

The protesters alleged that the Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of BJP, had organised a camp on the banks of the river Ganga in Rishikesh in Uttarakhand on February 28 and cooked non-vegetarian food and consumed alcohol.

According to a senior police official, the protesters raised slogans and tried to enter the BJP headquarters on Ashoka Road. They had crossed the outer barricade and were trying to cross the inner cordon.

Police used water cannons and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the crowd, the official said adding no one was injured in the incident. "We have not detained anybody," he said.

Police had blocked traffic on Ashok Road during the protest.
