A man, who posed as a snake charmer and his associate were arrested here for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 70,000 cash and 200 grams of gold worth Rs seven lakh, police said on Wednesday.
Baba Tara Nath and his accomplice Suraj were apprehended from Mewat in Haryana recently following investigations into a complaint by one Bharat Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma said.
Singh told the police that he had approached Nath for treating his brother's wife.
"Nath claimed to be a master snake charmer and well-versed in black magic. He also called his associate for the treatment of the woman.
"During a prayer session, both of them hatched a conspiracy and told the complainant to put the entire money and jewellery in a red cloth to make it double. On this, the complainant put Rs 70,000 and jewellery worth Rs seven lakh in a red cloth," Sharma said.
The duo allegedly put the entire money and jewellery in Nath's bag and fled the spot after hypnotising them.
"They were fooling people by claiming to be masters in snake-charming and equipped with supernatural abilities. They were invited by Bharat Singh for the treatment of his brother's wife with the help of black magic. Both of them started coming to his house for treatment and taking money through criminal conspiracy and finally fled with the jewellery and cash," Sharma said.
