New Delhi: Seeking to shield people from long judicial ordeal, a day-long Lok Adalat has settled over 1,300 cases of power theft, pertaining to direct theft and meter tampering, by consumers of BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL).

The Lok Adalat was organised by BSES in association with Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) at the premises of the Dwarka, Saket, Karkardooma and Tees Hazari Courts last Saturday.

BSES described it as a "win-win" for all the stakeholders alike including the customers, courts and the company itself.

"For the consumers, it meant an opportunity to amicably settle their cases and an escape from a prolonged and expensive legal process. For judiciary, it meant some burden off their Courts and it also meant more people coming into our billing net," a BSES spokesperson said.

BRPL and BYPL will withdraw the cases against the consumers who settled their cases in the 'paperless' Lok Adalat and this will also pave way for quashing of criminal proceedings against them, the spokesperson added.

The Lok Adalat took up cases that were pending or were yet to be filed in any Court.
