IIT graduate commits suicide in Delhi

New Delhi: A 25-year-old Indian Administrative Service (IAS) aspirant committed suicide here over a failed relationship, police said on Tuesday.

Amit Singh, who hails from Agra, was preparing for the IAS. The former Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi student hanged himself from the ceiling at his rented house in Govindpuri on Sunday night.

The incident came to light on Tuesday. Police recovered a suicide note in which Amit Singh apologised to his parents for committing suicide. He did not blame anyone in the note.

Police said Amit was depressed as his girlfriend, whom he met a year ago while working as an engineer in a multinational company, had broken up with him.

The young woman had wanted Amit Singh to join the IAS if he wanted to marry her. Thereafter, he left his job and started preparing for the IAS. But the friendship did not last.
