Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Dinesh Mohaniya in the middle a news conference, saying he had declared 'Emergency' in the national capital.
Mr Mohaniya, the legislator from Sangam Vihar, arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly misbehaving with a group of women who had gone to him to complain about a water crisis. A Delhi court has also rejected his bail petition and sent him to judicial custody till Monday.Mr Mohaniya, who is also vice chairman of Delhi Jal Board, was picked up by a police team while addressing a news conference at his office in Khanpur in South Delhi.
He was booked on charges of causing hurt, criminal intimidation and using word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, police said.
"A FIR (First Information Report) has been registered against Mohaniya at Neb Sarai Police Station following a complaint by the group of women," Nupur Prasad, a senior police officer, said.
Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay said that the arrest has again revealed the "anti-woman character" of AAP leaders.
Mr Mohaniya dismissed the charges against him as "baseless". "I am ready to cooperate with the police investigation but the allegations against me are baseless," he said.
Another case has been registered against Mr Mohaniya at Govindpuri Police Station for allegedly slapping a 60-year-old man in Tughlaquabad area yesterday.
The episode is the latest in the long-running feud between the AAP and the BJP. Yesterday, Mr Kejriwal had
attacked the Centre saying they had returned 14 bills sent by the Delhi government. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's office however denied the charge.
