Delhi Police will soon launch a training programme under which mobile teams will apprise its personnel about new and existing laws to effectively deal with cases like sexual offences against children and women.
The unique training module has been designed on Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi's behest who wants that every personnel of the force, including senior officers should undergo at least seven days of training every year.
"Keeping in mind that it is tough to bring all the force from the field to the training school, we have decided that the trainers would go to the officers. Under the new module, we will form six teams, each having two resource persons. The teams will visit six police stations everyday between 2 and 5 pm and deliver lectures," a senior official in the training department of Delhi Police told PTI.
There would be two lectures, one about Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the other regarding amendments in the existing laws of CrPC and IPC, he said.
"The force of every police station will be informed about the date of training so that everybody is present at that time. We are hoping to cover about 160 police stations," the official said.
Trainers will use audio-video resource material to train the police personnel.
The need of this sort of training has risen after it was revealed that a number of police personnel are not abreast about changes in laws, especially about POCSO and amendments in the law related to sexual offences against women.
In another such initiative, Delhi Police has started a three-week refresher course for constables who have completed four years in service.
"They are imparted basic training before they are inducted in the force. But, once you have worked in the field you find new challenges. So we have decided that after finishing four years in the field, these constables can come back to the training school and clear their doubts," the official said.
The training of the constables is already underway since the last six to eight months. Earlier each batch would have 250 constables, now, we are trying to increase that number to 400 per batch, he said.
