With two gold and two silver medals under the belt, shooters gave India a big boost in the medals tally on the second day of the Commonwealth Games.
Shooters Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang won India its first gold medal. The Indian pair shot gold in the Pairs 10 m Air Rifle Mens event with a Commonwealth Games' record 1,193 points at the Karni Singh ranges, 19 clear of England pair James Huckle and Kenny Parr. Bangladesh's Abdullah Hel Baki and Mohammad Asif Hossain Khan took bronze. (See: CWG 2010 medals tally)
Bindra and Narang, who will also compete in the 10-meter air rifle individual event on Wednesday, broke their own record of 1,189 set at Melbourne four years ago.
In the men's pairs, Bindra tallied 595 points, which included two 100s. Narang, 27, the current world record holder in the event with a mark of 600, did even better as the Indians took a three-point lead over the England pair by the third round. Narang's 598 consisted of four 100s and two 99s.
Speaking to NDTV, Bindra said he was delighted to have won the first gold for the country. "All eyes were on us, I am delighted we have won 1st gold." (Watch)
"It was a tough win as shooting is an internal sport. We both shot well today," he said.
The second gold was clinched by Anisa Syyed & Rahi Sarnobat in 25m Standard Pistol Pairs event. Deepak Sharma and Omkar Singh won silver medal in pairs 50 m Pistol event.
World champion Tejaswini Sawant is also in action in the 50m 3P pairs shooting event.

On the opening day of the competition yesterday, India won four medals, including two bronze and two silver medals in Weightlifting.
India is currently placed at the seventh slot behind England and hope to move up as Shooting events are lined up for today.
The Indian men's hockey team will also start their Commonwealth Games campaign today. They will play against Malaysia in Pool A at 8:30pm.
In archery, Dola Bannerjee will feature in the recurve individual event.
