Brother cheats NRI woman, sells Bangalore property

Bangalore: Trusting her own brother proved disastrous for the 73-year-old non-resident Indian Vatsala Anchan. The Dubai-based woman, who trusted Amit Kumar Saran by handing over property documents worth over Rs 2.5 crore, was cheated as the latter sold her 2,500 sq ft property at the posh locality of Koramangala 1st Block for Rs38 lakh.

Anchan has filed a police complaint against Saran, a Maharashtra-based businessman.

She alleged that Saran had misused the property documents. The police have registered a case under forgery, cheating and criminal intimidation against Saran and his wife Sujatha.

"Amit Saran has forged the documents and produced some other woman as Vatsala to sell the 2,500 sq feet property for Rs38 lakh. This happened six years back, but it came to Vatsala's knowledge when she came to Bangalore for updating her papers in the sub-registrar's office. When she contacted her brother, he threatened her of dire consequences," said Anchan's friend Gopi Krishna.

Krishna holds the general power of attorney of Anchan's property in Bangalore and is fighting the case. Anchan has allegedly been receiving threat mails from Saran, forcing her to shift base to Canada where her three daughters reside.

A three-storey building has come up in the site sold by Saran, said the police, who have collected the documents.

Anchan's husband Ashok Kumar Anchan, who died in 1997, had properties in Bangalore, Mumbai and Belgaum.
