Traders call for a bandh in Bhopal today to protest FDI in multi-brand retail

Bhopal: Traders in Bhopal have today called for a bandh in Bhopal to protest Foreign Direct Investment in the retail sector.

Schools and colleges will remain closed today and exams, scheduled to be held today, have been postponed to October 1. Public transportation will also not be operating today. The traders association had exempted schools, colleges and transport from joining the strike, however, they have remained shut to avoid any untoward incidents.

Bhopal did not join the 'Bharat bandh' on 20th September because the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, Bhutan Prime Minister Lyonpo Jigme Thinley, and other dignitaries were in the city for the inauguration of an International Buddhist University

The nation-wide strike, called by the BJP and Left, against the government decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail and hike diesel prices, shut down states where the Congress is not in power.
