Volkswagen has introduced the Tayron R-Line in India, marking its entry into the premium three-row SUV category. Priced from Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the new flagship model is positioned as a seven-seater offering with a strong focus on performance and practicality. Customers can secure their bookings with a token amount of Rs 51,000, either through Volkswagen's official dealerships or online platforms.

The Tayron R-Line is locally manufactured and built on the MQB EVO architecture, also underpinning the Tiguan R-Line. Powering the SUV is a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that develops 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque. It comes paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The company claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 224 km/h, making it one of the sportier options in its class.

The Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, offers buyers a choice between a 2.7-litre petrol unit and a 2.8-litre diesel engine. The diesel variant, now equipped with a 48-volt system, produces 201 hp and 500 Nm, with both 2WD and 4WD configurations available.
Jeep's Meridian is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine delivering 170 hp and 350 Nm. Buyers can opt for either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. Higher trims such as the Limited (O) and Overland also feature an AWD system, enhancing off-road capability.

Volkswagen has priced the Tayron R-Line at Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it in the premium bracket. The Toyota Fortuner starts at Rs 34.16 lakh and extends up to Rs 49.59 lakh, depending on variant and configuration. Meanwhile, the Jeep Meridian begins at Rs 23.33 lakh, with the limited-run Track Edition priced at Rs 35.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
