Now, the model brand has completed 50 years in existence and has crossed 2.5 million units for the Golf GTI.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary, Volkswagen has introduced a special Golf GTI Edition 50. This is claimed to be the most powerful version of the car ever produced, with 320 hp of power. It is already available for consumers in a few European regions. The automaker claims that the deliveries of the model will begin in 2026.

Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI
Additionally, the automaker plans to further extend the celebrations of the milestone year with significant changes for the GTI brand. Volkswagen plans to introduce the ID. Polo GTI, which will be the first all-electric vehicle to carry the famed name. The electric car has been in the headlines for some time, and will come with 226 hp of power. It is claimed that the electric vehicle will carry the classic GTI principles of performance, balance, and everyday practicality in an electric format.
Volkswagen 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Volkswagen intends to commemorate this anniversary with a strong presence at key European classic car exhibitions in early 2026. The festivities will kick off at Retromobile in Paris from January 28 to February 1, followed closely by the Bremen Classic Motorshow from January 30 to February 2. Both events will highlight five decades of GTI heritage and launch a year-long celebration of this legendary hot hatch.

Volkswagen GTI History
