Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the Thruxton 400 in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 2.74 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the first cafe racer of the brand based on the 400 cc platform, while it is the fifth model to join the likes of the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, and the Speed T4, which are already on sale in the country. While it shares some of the elements with the Speed 400, multiple qualities set it apart. Here, we take a look at all the details of the bike.
To start, the Triumph Thruxton 400 features a semi-fairing that stretches from the base of the fuel tank to the headlight, providing a muscular appearance to the motorcycle, despite the relatively slim fuel tank. At the same time, it has a neo-retro appeal to its design with a round headlamp that includes integrated LED DRLs. Furthermore, the tail lamp design is fresh. The consumers also get the option of having a cowl instead of a pillion seat.

Sticking to its cafe racer identity, the bike is equipped with clip-on handlebars, and the brand offers a windscreen to enhance its visual appeal. The handlebars are also equipped with bar-end mirrors. Along with this, the brand has repositioned the footpegs to give it a rather committed riding posture, with the rider leaning forward. All of this is complemented by four colour options: Lava Red Gloss and Aluminum Silver; Pearl Metallic White and Storm Grey; Metallic Racing Yellow with Aluminum Silver; and finally Phantom Black with Aluminum Silver

Regarding the cycle parts, the motorcycle is fitted with USD telescopic front forks with slightly increased travel compared to the Speed 400, a rear mono-shock, a front and rear disc brake system featuring dual channel ABS, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, the Thruxton 400 includes a semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue tachometer that is also present on the Speed 400. At the same time, the wheelbase of the bike is shorter compared to the Speed 400 at 1376 mm (down by 10 mm). Similarly, the ground clearance is down by 7 mm to 158 mm.
The Triumph Thruxton 400 carries the same engine used on the Speed 400 with some modifications. This means it gets a 398 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. However, it has been retuned to produce 42 hp of power and 37 Nm of peak torque. The power is transferred to the wheels through a six-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.
