
Tesla has opened its first showroom in India at the Bandra Kurla Complex. Initially, the US-based EV maker showed interest in setting up its manufacturing facility in India. However, now we know that Tesla will be bringing the cars as a CBU. The brand has not yet revealed about which car will be its first offering for the Indian market, it is expected that Tesla will be aimimh to bring the Model Y soon. The Tesla Model Y rear-wheel drive variant gets the option of both 60 kWh and a larger 75 kWh battery pack in the Indian market. The RWD variant features a single electric motor, producing around 295 hp and 420 Nm of peak torque. It is to be noted that the international market gets an AWD version with a 75 kWh battery pack, which has not been launched in India.

Meanwhile, the BYD Sealion 7 has two variants in the Indian market, namely Sealion 7 Premium and Performance. Both variants use the 82.56 kWh battery pack. The BYD Sealion RWD variant is equipped with a single electric motor that generates 308 hp of power and 380 Nm of torque. In contrast, the AWD version of the electric SUV delivers 523 hp of power and 690 Nm of torque.

The Tesla Model Y's 60 kWh battery claims to deliver a WLTP range of 500 km on a single charge, while the long-range variant claims 622 km. On the other hand, the BYD Sealion 7 RWD delivers 567 km on a full charge, while the AWD variant offers a slightly lower range of 542 km.

The international spec of the Tesla Model Y is equipped with a 15.4-inch touchscreen-enabled infotainment system on the front, along with an 8-inch touchscreen in the second row. Apart from this, it also has heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting, 8 exterior cameras, and more. However, the Model Y misses out on a panoramic sunroof and gets a glass roof.

The BYD Sealion 7 comes packed with features. These include a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can rotate, dual-zone automatic climate control, an array of ADAS features, a 12-speaker sound system, and a panoramic sunroof.

Tesla Model Y Vs BYD Sealion 7: Price
The Tesla Model Y will be sold in India at a starting price of Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go up to Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the BYD Sealion 7 was launched in February 2025 at a starting price of Rs 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom), which goes up to Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
