Tata Motors emerged as the second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India in May 2026 based on VAHAN registration data. The company strengthened its position in the market with strong demand for popular models such as the Tata Nexon, Tata Punch, Tata Curvv, Tata Harrier and Tata Safari.
Tata Motors reported total passenger vehicle sales of 59,790 units during the month, registering a healthy 42 percent year-on-year growth. The strong performance helped Tata Motors maintain its place just behind Maruti Suzuki, which continued to lead the market. The company also benefited from rising demand for electric vehicles, further reinforcing Tata Motors' presence across both ICE and EV segments in India.

According to the company's official sales data, Tata Motors sold 59,090 passenger vehicles in the domestic market during May 2026. This marks a significant increase from the 41,557 units sold during the same month last year.
International business also witnessed healthy growth. Tata Motors exported 700 passenger vehicles in May 2026, compared to 483 units in May 2025. As a result, Tata Motors' total passenger vehicle sales reached 59,790 units.
The strong performance helped Tata Motors maintain its position as the second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India, behind market leader Maruti Suzuki.

One of the biggest highlights for Tata Motors was its electric vehicle business. Tata Motors recorded EV sales of 10,517 units in May 2026, including both domestic and international markets.
Compared to 5,685 units sold in May 2025, Tata Motors registered an impressive 85 percent growth in EV sales. This also marks the highest monthly EV sales figure achieved by Tata Motors so far. Popular electric models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, Tata Curvv EV and Tata Tiago EV continue to contribute significantly to Tata Motors' electric mobility success.
The sales momentum indicates strong customer demand across the Tata Motors lineup. SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Tata Punch, Tata Harrier and Tata Safari remain key volume drivers for Tata Motors
At the same time, newer products and electric vehicles are helping Tata Motors attract a wider range of buyers. The company also stated that vehicle registrations on the VAHAN portal grew by more than 50 percent year-on-year, reflecting strong retail demand.
