Renault has taken the wraps off its new flagship SUV - Filante. It opens a new chapter in the brand's international expansion. With its styling and technology, Renault Filante is a strategic part of Renault's 2027 International Game Plan, intended to consolidate brand presence in key markets in Asia and the Middle East. The name of Filante refers to Renault's heritage in two ways. First, the Etoile Filante, the legendary prototype that smashed several world speed records at the Bonneville Salt Lake Flats in 1956.
In 2025, Renault used the historic name of Filante for its electric concept car: Renault Filante Record 2025. With its streamlined design, largely inspired by aeronautics, it set a new efficiency record last December: 1,008 km in less than 10 hours, at an average speed of 102 km/h, and a consumption of 7,8 kWh/100 km.

Renault Filante: Design, Dimensions
Renault's new international flagship, the Filante, adopts a bold crossover stance that blends SUV cues with coupe-like styling. The front facet features an illuminated diamond-pattern grille and flush-fit LED headlamps with a distinctive DRL signature angled at 28 degrees. The rear fascia gets ultra-slim LED lights and a suspended spoiler for a dynamic look. Large 19- or 20-inch wheels and a flowing roofline complete the premium aesthetic.

In terms of size, the Filante is positioned in the E-segment with generous proportions: 4,915 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height, riding on a 2,820 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance stands at 201 mm, and boot space ranges from 633 litres to 2,050 litres with seats folded. These dimensions suggest a spacious cabin and strong road presence, though the elongated rear may polarize opinions.

Renault Filante: Cabin & Features
Inside, the Filante aims for a lounge-like experience with a tech-heavy layout. The dashboard integrates three 12.3-inch screens (instrument cluster, central display, passenger screen) under the OpenR Panorama setup, complemented by a 25.6-inch AR head-up display. Materials include eco-friendly textiles and grained TEP, with multiple colour themes across trims like Techno, Iconic, and Esprit Alpine.

Comfort highlights include tri-zone climate control, a fixed panoramic sunroof (1.1 sqm), and contoured lounge seats with perforated headrests. Rear passengers benefit from 886 mm headroom and 320 mm knee room, while audio options range from an Arkamys system to a Bose Premium setup with active noise cancellation. Connectivity is comprehensive, offering Android Automotive OS, 5G, wireless charging, Wi-Fi, and four USB-C ports. Safety tech includes over 30 ADAS features, plus new additions like Emergency Steering Assist, Smart Rearview Mirror, and Child Presence Detection.
Renault Filante: Powertrains
Under the hood, the Filante debuts an upgraded E-Tech full hybrid system delivering 250 Hp and 565 Nm. The setup combines a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (150 Hp) with two electric motors (100 kW and 60 kW) and a 1.64 kWh battery, paired with a 3-speed Multimode Auto gearbox. Renault claims up to 75% electric driving in city conditions, with CO2 emissions pegged at 106 g/km.
The CMA-based architecture includes multi-link rear suspension and recalibrated steering for improved comfort and stability. While the hybrid system promises efficiency without charging constraints, the relatively small battery suggests limited pure-electric range - something rivals with plug-in options may exploit.
