Nissan, the Japanese automaker, has been in the headlines of reports suggesting that the automaker is considering shutting down manufacturing plants across the globe. The speculations also suggested, the automaker is mulling shutting down its plants in Japan and Mexico. Some of these reports even included the manufacturer's plants in India, South Africa, and Argentina on the list for operational cuts.

The reports suggest that the closure of plants is part of the automaker's plan for cost cuts. The Spokesperson of Nissan Motor India has responded to the news reports causing unrest in automotive circles, saying, “Nissan remains committed to its India operations, dealers, partners, and customers. Nissan & its dealer partners will continue to provide Sales & Service to customers of existing and future new models."

The brand also reiterated its plant to launch a new B-segment MPV & 2 new C-SUVs in the Indian market. Furthermore, they claimed that the automaker will continue its plan to export vehicles to other parts of the world as per One Car, One World plan.

"Regarding the recent reports on the potential closure of certain plants, Nissan wants to clarify again that this news is speculative and not based on any official information of the company." he further added.

Furthermore, the recent strategic moves by the automaker point in a different direction when put against the shutdown rumours. Specifically, in March, Nissan announced that Renault Group would fully own Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL) by acquiring the 51 percent stake that the Japanese giant currently possesses. This move clarified that Nissan is freeing up capital while having the right to use the plant for manufacturing through an agreement without bearing full operational liabilities and focusing on expansion.

The Japanese car manufacturer also confirmed that they have officially revealed plans to consolidate production of the Nissan Frontier/Nissan Navara pickups, which are presently divided between Mexico and Argentina, into a single manufacturing hub in the area, centered at the CIVAC facility in Morelos, Mexico.

Concluding the statement, the spokesperson said, "At this time, we will not be providing further comments on this matter. Our focus remains on our operations and the dedicated workforce that drives our success. We are committed to maintaining transparency with our stakeholders and will communicate any relevant updates as necessary.”
