Mahindra is testing and preparing multiple new models for launch in the country. Among these models is what was being referred to as the XUV700 facelift, until now. However, a new trademark filing by the Indian manufacturer hints at a new name for the SUV. Based on this, the SUV will likely be called XUV 7XO, which is a name more in sync with the brand's new nomenclature. The name had surfaced earlier in reports, but now has received more credibility because of the trademark.

The use of the alphanumeric combo seems to be a part of the brand's effort to streamline its nomenclature. The naming trend was first introduced with the XUV 3XO, which replaced the XUV300 in the brand's lineup. A similar pattern is also seen in the automaker's electric vehicle lineup, which follows the naming philosophy with names starting with "XEV" and "BE" prefixes depending on their family.

Along with a change in name, the Mahindra XUV700 facelift (now XUV 7XO) will bring changes in design. These will be visible in the form of a new front fascia consisting of a new grille, headlight, and signature DRLs. Similarly, the SUV is likely to get a new design for the alloy wheels and the rear end. Until now, these details have not been revealed by the test mules spotted on the road.
