KTM 160 Duke Mileage Figure Revealed: Better Than Yamaha MT15?

The entry-level motorcycle segment has a new entrant. KTM launched the all-new 160 Duke in India earlier this month, targeting the youth and enthusiast market. KTM 160 Duke is available in a single variant, and is priced at Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of price, performance and features, the Yamaha MT15 is the closest rival to the KTM 160 Duke.

KTM has started dispatching the new 160 Duke to the dealerships as well. NDTV Auto participated in the media ride review of the KTM 160 Duke and learnt the mileage of the sporty, naked motorcycle. At the heart of the matter is a 164-cc, single-cylinder, SOHC engine, which generates 19 horsepower and 15.5 Nm of peak torque. The liquid-cooled engine is connected to a 6-speed gearbox.

On the other hand, Yamaha MT15 is powered by a 155-cc, single-cylinder, SOHC engine, which generates 18.4 horsepower and 14.1 Nm of peak torque. The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency for Yamaha MT15 is 47.94 kmpl.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the 160 Duke is 10 per cent more efficient than the 200 Duke. KTM conducted internal testing and claims the 160 Duke returned a fuel efficiency of 40 kmpl. The ARAI-certified economy number is still awaited. According to KTM, the engine of the 160 Duke is based on the 200's engine family with revisions in internals, making it one kilogram lighter. The valvetrain has been optimised and 80 per cent of the torque is available under 4,000 rpm. KTM also claims the 160 Duke has faster 3rd and 4th gear roll-on acceleration timing over the Yamaha MT15.

Even in terms of pricing, the Yamaha MT15 is more affordable than the KTM 160 Duke. The MT15 is available in two variants, and it is priced between Rs 1.70 lakh and 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom).
