The ongoing conflict between Iran and the U.S. has captured the world's attention, while India is focused on enhancing its defence systems. As part of this effort, India is developing the Sheshnaag-150 drone, which features long-range swarming attack capabilities. In addition to its military applications, this drone has also piqued the interest of automotive enthusiasts due to its unique launch setup utilising a Toyota Hilux pickup truck.
The drone offers the capability to inflict disproportionate damage on the battlefield with a low cost of production compared to typical weapons used in this style of war. Developed by Bengaluru-based Newspace Research Technologies (NRT), the drone relied on a Hilux pickup truck as its mobile launch platform. The use of the vehicle seems ideal considering that the truck with Japanese roots is known for its durability and capabilities to tackle tough terrain.

Furthermore, the setup consisting of a Hilux pickup allows for rapid deployment in varied environments, enhancing operational flexibility for military users. NRT engineers have integrated the vehicle seamlessly, making it a practical "launchpad" that supports the drone's swarm coordination features.
Sheshnaag-150
The Sheshnaag-150 can carry out precise strikes and boasts a range of over 1,000 kilometers. It also offers an endurance of more than five hours, enabling it to remain over target areas for extended periods while providing real-time surveillance and attack options. The drone is capable of autonomously recognising, monitoring, and engaging enemy targets with minimal to no human intervention. Additionally, it can carry warheads weighing between 25 and 40 kilograms.

Toyota Hilux
The Hilux pickup truck developed by the Japanese multinational giant, Toyota made its debut in 1968. Evolving over the decades, the pickup is currently in its eighth generation and has earned a reputation for its bulletproof reliability. Furthermore, multiple videos shared on social media testing its durability have also declared it to be "indestructible". Sugar on top, the vehicle is capable of tackling all kinds of terrain, making it an ideal choice for use as a vehicle to deploy drones like Sheshnaag-150.
As for India, the Hilux is currently sold at a starting price of Rs 28.02 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 35.37 lakh (ex-showroom). It seeks power from a 2.8-litre in-line four-cylinder diesel engine which produces 206 hp of power and 500 Nm of torque at the peak of its performance. The power is routed to a 4x4 system via a six-speed MT. It also gets the option of a six-speed AT.
