Hyundai Ioniq 5 Facelift Inching Closer To India Launch: Updates That Matter

Hyundai Motor India is planning to launch its flagship electric SUV, the Ioniq 5, in the Indian market. Expected to launch soon, this will be the first update to the electric car since its 2023 launch. The facelift version of the electric SUV is already on sale in the international market and was introduced a year ago. The camouflaged prototypes of the EV have already been spotted testing in India. Here are some of the key changes to expect in the model.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: Design Changes

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has received minor yet significant updates to its exterior, reflecting changes made in the global model. These updates are expected to be included in the India-specific facelifted version as well. While the fundamental silhouette of the EV remains unchanged, there are subtle modifications expected, such as a sportier front bumper inspired by the performance-oriented Ioniq 5 N.

Specifically, the electric vehicle gets a new set of alloy wheels, a redesigned rear bumper, the addition of a rear wiper, and a 50 mm wider roof spoiler. Due to these alterations, the facelifted Ioniq 5 is now 20 mm longer than its predecessor. New color options are also anticipated for the Indian market.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: Interior Updates

Inside the vehicle, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift features a new three-spoke steering wheel equipped with interactive pixel lights, similar to those in the latest Hyundai models. The updated center console includes additional physical controls that enhance practicality, such as for first-row heating and ventilation, steering heating, and park assist.

Additionally, the wireless charging pad has been repositioned, along with newly designed cup holders. The touchscreen infotainment system is expected to receive over-the-air updates and a revamped operating system, while the instrument cluster will feature updated graphics.

The global version of the Ioniq 5 gets improved safety features, reinforced with fortified doors, B-pillars, and more rigid body panels for enhanced safety. Improvements have also been made in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels, with upgraded dampers reducing vibrations in the steering wheel. Additionally, the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package has been upgraded with new functionalities in international markets, and the India-specific model is expected to incorporate these updates.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: Range, Battery Pack

On a global scale, the Ioniq 5 facelift has been introduced with a larger battery pack. It is likely that the same will be offered in India, potentially replacing the existing 72.6 kWh battery with an 84 kWh battery pack, which would increase the driving range. This is expected to be paired with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) motor.

The powertrain is projected to produce a peak power of 215 bhp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, which is similar to the current specifications. It will enable the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 185 km/h. Regarding range, it is expected to provide up to 570 km on a single charge, an improvement from the existing model's range of 451 km. The Ioniq 5 facelift will support DC fast charging of up to 350 kW, allowing the EV to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
