Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is set to significantly boost its manufacturing capabilities at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan's Alwar district. The company plans to install a third production line, increasing the facility's annual capacity to 2.01 million two-wheeler units.
Expansion Details
The new line will add 670,000 units per year and is scheduled to start operations in 2028. This flexible setup will produce both 125cc and 160cc scooters and light motorcycles, targeting commuter demand. HMSI will invest roughly Rs 1,500 crore and acquire 73,700 square meters of land for this purpose.

Plant Background
Tapukara, HMSI's second factory, began operations in July 2011 with a capacity of 0.6 million units, which rose to 1.2 million by March 2012. Recent automation since 2023 has pushed it to 1.3 million units, with further gains to 1.34 million by FY2026. The site currently supports key models like Activa scooters.
Broader Impact
This move aligns with HMSI's goal to reach 8 million units overall across plants by FY2028, up from 6.25 million now. It will create over 2,000 jobs, aiding regional growth. Complementary expansions, such as a fourth line at Vithalapur, Gujarat, by 2027, strengthen supply chain resilience amid rising two-wheeler demand.
