Honda Cars India Posts 6,941 Unit Sales In January 2026 - Details

Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) reported total sales of 6,941 units in January 2026, comprising 6,193 units in domestic sales and 748 units in exports. This performance reflected a month-on-month growth of 6.65% compared to December 2025, though overall volumes declined on a year-on-year basis when measured against January 2025. The figures highlight a mixed start to the year, with domestic demand showing modest improvement but exports weighing down the overall tally.

Commenting on the results, Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales at HCIL, said, "The year has begun on a strong note, supported by a healthy sales momentum. The Honda Amaze continues to bring in strong demand for its value for money offering along with the City and Elevate that contribute steadily to the overall business. We remain confident of sustaining this positive momentum in the coming months."

In January 2025, Honda had sold 7,325 units domestically and exported 4,979 units, bringing total sales to 12,304 units. The sharp decline in exports during January 2026 - down 84.98% year-on-year to just 748 units, emerged as the biggest drag on overall performance. This steep fall resulted in total sales dropping by 43.59% YoY, underscoring weaker overseas demand or possible supply constraints. Despite this, domestic retail showed signs of recovery on a sequential basis, offering some encouragement for the company's near-term outlook.

Looking ahead, Honda is preparing a multi-pronged product strategy for 2026-27 that blends halo imports with long-term localisation. The company plans to introduce select CBU halo models, including the Prelude, ZR-V Hybrid, and other niche global offerings. These models are intended to strengthen Honda's brand image in India rather than chase high volumes, reflecting a strategy focused on prestige and differentiation.
