Toyota, the renowned Japanese automaker, is preparing to streamline its Hilux lineup in India. Our sources confirmed the company is discontinuing the production of the Hilux's red shade, or what Toyota calls 'Emotional Red'. Following this move, the Hilux will be offered in just four colour choices for the Indian market: Super White, Grey Metallic, White Pearl Crystal Shine, and Attitude Black. Also, the Toyota Hilux Black Edition is on sale in India with a fully blacked-out kit. This update narrows the colour palette while retaining the model's premium appeal among buyers.

The Toyota Hilux is powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. It still delivers 201 hp and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and transfers power to all four wheels via a permanent 4x4 system. The off-roading capabilities of the vehicle are aided by an electronic differential lock, an automatic limited-slip differential, hill assist control, and downhill assist control, and its water-wading capability of 700 mm.

Recently, Toyota has unveiled the 2026 Hilux, showcasing a refreshed design both inside and out. The latest version isn't limited to traditional ICE powertrains; it also introduced electric options, marking a historic step for the brand. The Hilux, long celebrated for its durability and capability, has now gone electric, becoming Toyota's first-ever body-on-frame EV. According to the company, the Hilux EV will debut in global markets by the end of this year, while the ICE variants are expected to arrive in showrooms by mid-2026.

In fact, it takes the stage with not just ICE powertrain choices, but electric powertrains too. Yes, the Hilux, known for its capabilities and reliability, has finally gone electric. It is also the first-ever body-on-frame EV from Toyota. The company will first roll out the Hilux EV in the global market, with the ICE trims expected to start reaching showroom floors by mid-2026.

The new-generation Hilux will retain its iconic 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, a global favourite among enthusiasts. A 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor will also be offered as part of the lineup. With the ICE powertrain, the Hilux delivers a payload capacity of 1,000 kg and an impressive towing ability of up to 3,500 kg. Additionally, the diesel variant will be equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system, enhancing efficiency and performance.
