BYD India has initiated a voluntary recall of its Seal electric sedan to address a potential issue with the vehicle's high-voltage Blade battery. The company has asked all Seal owners in the country to visit authorised service centres for inspection and, if necessary, a free battery replacement.

According to service centre technicians, the recall stems from a possible fault in individual cells within the Seal's battery pack. While the exact number of affected units has not been disclosed, BYD India is taking precautionary measures to ensure customer safety and vehicle reliability.

Owners of the Seal are advised to book appointments at authorised service centres. During the visit, technicians will conduct an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) check to identify any issues with the battery cells. If a fault is detected, the entire battery pack will be replaced at no cost to the customer.

The recall is limited to the Seal model and does not affect other BYD vehicles currently sold in India. The Seal, which was launched with two battery pack options: 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh, is available in three variants: Dynamic (Standard Range), Premium (Extended Range), and Performance (All-Wheel Drive). The prices of the electric sedan start at Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 53.15 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Blade battery, a proprietary technology developed by BYD, is known for its structural safety and energy density. This recall comes at a time when electric vehicle adoption in India is steadily increasing, and manufacturers are under scrutiny regarding safety and performance standards.
