Both the Rolls-Royce cars are registered in Maharashtra

Rolls-Royce cars registered in the name of two Bollywood celebrities of which one is claimed to be Amitabh Bachchan have been fined Rs 18 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, respectively. This fine is for failure to pay road tax in Bengaluru. However, the twist is that the aforementioned celebrities do not own the car anymore. Instead, both of these cars are owned by a local businessman-politician, Yusuf Sharif.

The vehicles in question were being regularly used by Yusuf Sharif. Based on his claims, both the cars, i.e., the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Rolls-Royce Ghost, were bought by him from Amitabh Bachchan and another actor a few years ago. However, he did not get them transferred to his name.

Mr. Sharif is commonly referred to as 'KGF Babu' because of his origins. He hails from Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), a mining town in Karnataka that became famous after the hit Kannada movie series, 'KGF.'

The Rolls-Royce Phantom and Rolls-Royce Ghost are both registered in Maharashtra. The specific date when KGF Babu acquired these vehicles is currently unknown. However, according to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the Rolls-Royce Phantom has been in Bengaluru since 2021, while the other vehicle has been there since 2023.

The Phantom was assessed a fine of Rs 18.53 lakh, and the Ghost was fined Rs 19.73 lakh for being used long-term in Karnataka without the payment of local road tax.

Authorities disclosed that the Rolls-Royce Phantom was initially flagged for non-payment of taxes in 2021, but at that time, it had not been in Bengaluru for a full year, so it was allowed to proceed without a penalty.

Now, both vehicles have been confirmed to have been operational in the city for more than the one year stipulated by transport regulations, resulting in these substantial fines. RTO officials have verified that the vehicle ownership has not yet been updated in official records.
