BMW Motorrad recently unveiled the F 450 GS, which is the first motorcycle built on the new twin-cylinder 450 platform. The brand's CEO has confirmed that this new platform will replace the 310 family of motorcycles. This announcement is not surprising, as the German company has already removed models based on the 310 platform from several markets, including India. Meanwhile, the G 310 RR is still on sale and awaits retirement.

As per MCN's report, BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch mentioned that the engine developed in partnership with TVS will form the base for a broader range of products. He also confirmed that the twin-cylinder 450 platform is the successor of the 310. He refrained from mentioning the models that will spawn in the future.

MCN quotes Markus Flasch saying, "Looking at the existing 310 lineup, you can more or less guess what we will bring out in the future on the 450 platform." The statement hints at the birth of a new middle-weight supersport and naked sport motorcycles, which will likely be called F 450 RR and F 450 R, respectively, considering the nomenclature used by the automaker.

The initial phase of the new migration with greater capacity is already in progress, starting with the launch of the 450 GS, while the G 310 R naked will be the next to transition. In the meantime, there is still no word on the supersport model. If and when launched, the 450 cc supersport will compete against the likes of the Aprilia RS457 and Yamaha R3 in the Indian market.

The future twin-cylinder models will likely be based on the steel frame and aluminium swingarm used on the 450 GS. However, there will be changes in the hardware to suit the needs of different body types. Furthermore, there is a possibility of inclusion of he brand's automated gearbox on these machines. All of it is aimed at improving the ride experience and accessibility of the machine.
