Goa assembly polls: First list of Congress candidates to come out next week
Panaji: Congress would announce the first list of its candidates for Goa assembly polls next week, a senior leader said here today.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President, Subhash Shirodkar, said the screening committee and the central election committee would be meeting next week to finalise the first list.

Rubbishing speculations by the media about possible names, Shirodkar said party had not decided on any of the candidates yet.

"On January 24, the screening committee will go through the list of aspirants and subsequently central committee will meet to decide the first list," Shirodkar said.

"The formal announcement would be made from Delhi," he added.

Shirodkar admitted that four prominent Congress leaders are seeking more than one tickets for their family members.

Churchill Alemao has asked for four tickets, while Pratapsingh Rane, Atanasio Monserratte and Ravi Naik have demanded two tickets each.

Shirodkar said the party would examine their demands "on merit".

As to the talks with NCP for pre-poll alliance, Shirodkar said decision was yet to be taken, but the Sharad Pawar-led party would be given 6-8 seats. "The alliance is going to happen," he added.
