Cold hits poll campaign in Uttarakhand, Gadkari cancels visit
Dehra Dun: Biting cold wave and snowfall took a toll on campaigning for Assembly polls in Uttarakhand, with BJP President Nitin Gadkari forced to cancel his visit to the state.

Gadkari, who was schedule to address a series of rallies in Haridwar and Dehradun districts, could not arrive due to bad weather conditions.

The BJP chief then chose to address rallies through mobile phone.

Chief Minister B C Khanduri also cancelled his visit to Gairsain, Gopeshwar and other areas of Chamoli district.

The intense cold has created problem for candidates as they are unable to hold rallies with people mostly remaining indoors.

The BJP had earlier demanded that the Election Commission should postpone the elections by a fortnight in view of the intense cold.

Congress had, however, said it would honour any decision taken by the EC in this regard.

The mood in the Congress circles was upbeat after party chief Sonia Gandhi addressed rallies yesterday despite inclement weather.
