Two women have been arrested by forest range personnel after being found in possession of 19 kilograms of deer meat at the Bhavanisagar forest area here.
Acting on a tipoff, forest department officials raided a house in Selavanuremedu area within the Bhavanisagar forest range yesterday, where two women and four men carrying stuffed polythene bags, were about to leave.
While all the four men managed to escape, officials interrogated and arrested the two women Rengammal (36) and Poonkodi (24), after finding that the plastic bags contained 19 kg of deer meat.
Search is on to nab the absconding accused.
The arrested women confessed that along with some men, they had captured the deer in the forest settlement area, officials said.
Two nets, an Indian machete and a knife were also seized along with the meat.
