Project for protection of Mada forest

Rajahmundry: Central government Forest Department's Additional Director General (Wild Life) Jagadish Kishwant said a project has been prepared for protection of Mada forest area in East Godavari district besides the coastal areas.

Speaking at a workshop on "mainstreaming coastal and marine biodiversity conversion sector in East Godavari", hesaid private participation is needed for protection and development of Mada forest in this area.

He said a project plan has prepared for this purpose to utilize the resources available in the Mada area and coastlineof sea for usage in day-to-day life.

"Major importance will be given to Coringa sanctuary in the projects and Mada forest as Coringa sanctuary consists ofover 120 species of birds and our main aim is to protect the species and trees", Kishwant said.

Common birds found in the sanctuary are like Little Egret, Pied Kingfisher, Cattle Egret, Root heron etc and 35plant species are present in this sanctuary.

The major threat the Mada forest area is facing comes from pollution due to release of gases by the companies, whichhave come up in the area and the forest was coming under threat, he said.
