I-T raids unearth Rs57 crore of black money

Ahmedabad: The income tax sleuths claimed to have unearthed Rs57 crore worth of unaccounted money on the second day of the raids carried out on city-based Sheladiya builders.

The raids are being carried out at several locations in the city as well as Gandhinagar, sources said. According to sources, the realtor had purchased 11 bighas of agriculture land in Gandhinagar and paid a whopping Rs12crore for it. Sources said the income tax sleuths have also grilled the seller of the land who allegedly admitted that big money changed hands but a large part of it was unaccounted for.

Four lockers that were sealed on Tuesday are likely to throw up proof of several more unaccounted transactions. Source said that the officials are grilling several people associated with the builder including his relatives and sons. Sources said that the modus operandi used by the builder is similar to the one used by most realtors.

"They never show the actual cost of a transaction and will only reveal 40% of it," said a source. However, he further said that investigations are on and more revelations are likely to come.
