Hefty Fine Slapped on Quarry Owner in Tamil Nadu

A quarry owner has reportedly been slapped with a whopping Rs 4.75 crore fine by the Sub-Collector for allegedly cutting huge quantities of granite without government permission.
     
Revenue officials said Gopichettipalayam Sub-Collector Krishnan Unni conducted a surprise raid some days back and found massive quanities of granite being cut from one of the 10 quarries owned by the man without government permisson.

The Sub-Collector found 51,300 cubic meters of granite cut, conducted an enquiry and levied a fine of Rs 4,75,55,100 on the quarry owner and ordered him to pay it within a week.

Revenue officials said their personnel raided on quarries in the area yesterday on his orders to detect irregularities and found three quarries illegally mining granite.

Two quarry owners were fined Rs 15.30 lakhs each and another 10.27 lakh. they said.
