Patna: A police case has been filed against Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) chief and MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav for allegedly provoking students of College of Arts and Craft, Patna, with an intent to "cause riot and breach peace in the society".

"An FIR against Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was lodged yesterday on the basis of a video footage in which (Pappu) Yadav was seen provoking a girl to tell that she along with other students would immolate themselves if their demands are not met," Budha Colony police station SHO Manoj Mohan said.

The girl was talking to reporters at the College on July 1, he said.

The section under which Mr Yadav has been booked included Indian Penal Code's Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).

The students of the college were agitating against the authorities over a host of issues including removal of the principal.
