Stray Dog with 'Skin as Hard as Stone' Makes Incredible Recovery

Screengrab taken from YouTube video uploaded by Animal Aid Unlimited, India

This video, showing the incredible rescue and recovery of an Indian street dog suffering from an extreme skin disease will help renew your faith in humanity.

The female dog, extremely undernourished, was covered in scabs due to mange. Animal Aid Unlimited, a rescue centre for stray animals, found out about the dog and came to her help.

The video shows volunteers from the foundation first trying to befriend the dog in order to take her to the shelter. While the scared dog can be seen resisting the initial help, the team is eventually successful in taking her for treatment.

Once at the shelter, team members can be seen painstakingly massaging medicated lotion to help soften the stray's crusty skin. After about four days, the rescue team manage to remove all the scabs off the dog.

It takes six weeks for the dog, named Alice by her rescuers, to recover completely. And to say her transformation is miraculous would be an understatement. There's a reason the video has received over 1.8 million views on YouTube, along with heaps of praise for the rescue team.
