Bride takes groom to task over dowry demand

A wedding in a village in Bengal's Durgapur district turned into a battleground as a bride declared enough was enough after the groom's family demanded more dowry.

She stormed out of the ceremony giving the groom a mouthful as she left.

Angry villagers then surrounded the groom and his relatives. While his family managed to flee, the groom was held hostage for more than 15 hours till the police came and rescued him.

The girl has done the right thing. Only if girls show courage and reject such dowry asking grooms(beggars), the social evil of dowry will stop. Hats off to her courage.

Dear Sir, Unless equal share in parental property is given to boy and girl child, this menace is to continue. By an ordinance by Government, such crimes can be stopped. When women is being given 33% reservation, this is the opportunity to the Government to show its desire and move further and give a message to the Society. Regards, Nair
