Union home minister Rajnath SIngh and Jammu And Kashmir's chief minister Mehbooba Mufti are addressing media on Kashmir unrest.
Here are the highlights of their speech:
Mehbooba Mufti: 95% people of the state don't want violence, they want peace. We have to reach out to them. Rajnath Singh: Extremely saddened by the situation in Kashmir. Rajnath Singh: I want to appeal to the people of Kashmir, please don't play with the future of the Kashmir's youth. Rajnath Singh: I have said it before also, youth in Kashmir should have pens, books and computers in their hands, not stones. Rajnath Singh: We have to identify those elements that are trying to mislead some of our youth in Kashmir. Rajnath Singh: Without the future of Kashmir, the future of India cannot exist: Rajnath Singh: We have asked security personnel to observe maximum restrain. People should not forget what defence forces did for them during Kashmir floods. Rajnath Singh: I urge to people of Kashmir to maintain peace in the state. Rajnath Singh: Will announce alternative to pellet guns soon. Rajnath Singh: We will appoint nodal officer for Kashmir issue. Rajnath Singh on meeting separatists: We are ready to meet anyone in the ambit of humanity, Kashmiriyat and democracy. Mehbooba Mufti: Whatever happened in 2010, there was a reason. There was a fake encounter, people were angry. What is happening now is totally different. Don't compare 2010 and 2016. I also want inquiry into the death of lecturer. Mehbooba Mufti: Youngsters of the Valley are being used by some elements as shields to attack Army camps, they want our children to suffer. Mehbooba Mufti: There will be no resolution to the Kashmir crisis by throwing stones.
