Akhilesh Yadav Launches State's Emergency Response System UP-100

The UP-100 centralised contact centre has been established in Lucknow.

Lucknow: A state-wide centralised emergency response system UP-100, was today launched in Lucknow by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav with an aim to reduce police response time to 20 minutes in villages and 15 in urban areas.

"Many a times, there are complaints that phone calls are not attended by the police. Now this complaint will be removed with UP-100. Till now it was the victim who had to run to the police but now it will be the other way round," he said after launching the system.

He said the police response time will be reduced to 20 minutes now.

The UP-100 centralised contact centre, set up to provide round-the-clock emergency services relating to public safety, has been established in Lucknow where emergency calls would be received directly from across the state.

Mr Yadav, who has been at the receiving end of the Opposition parties over the law and order situation, said they will now get an answer through this system which will prove to be an example for other states as well.

The system will become operational in 11 districts tonight while in the entire state by December 15.

Meanwhile, opposition parties, BJP and BSP, have termed the scheme as an eyewash.

While state BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya termed the system as a "mockery" with 22 crore people of the state, BSP chief Mayawati said such "hi-fi" schemes will not be of any help to improve the situation in the remaining tenure of the Samajwadi Party government.
